Babies Thrown off Roofs in western India

In this article on CNN.com reports on a village's ritual of throwing babies off temple roofs. It is a ritual that is supposed to bring good health and good luck for the children being thrown off. Hindus and Muslims practice this ritual.

Infants are dropped 50 feet onto a bed sheet held up by a group of men. The babies land on the bed sheet and bounce up. Then, they are taken off and passed to their parents.

CNN.com starts the article off saying "In a ritual that would terrify most mothers..." and makes sure to explain how critics want it banned and think it's unsafe.

I feel like that is from an extremely Western point of view, being that it will probably terrify the mothers in the villages if they don't participate in this ceremonious event by going against their beliefs. This will make them worry that their child will become sick.

Although it is an unsafe practice, they're going to have a hard time banning a practice that his been in existence for 500 years.
