U.S. has Mandela on terrorist list

According to an article published by USA Today, the United States has had Nelson Mandela on its terrorist watch list for some time now.

The story is a reflection of the growing resentment, both domestic and international, over the United States' terror programs used in response to 9/11. Mandela joins famed folk singer Cat Stevens on the list of absurd individuals who have found their way onto terror watch lists in recent years. Stevens was in mid-flight in 2004 when his plane was diverted away from the United States because he had been flagged on a "no-fly" list.

This same week, CNN.com reported that an Al-Jazeera cameraman has been released after spending six years at Guantanamo Bay, with no charges filed against him and no evidence of wrongdoing. Reporters Without Borders worked on his behalf to have him released since his incarceration in 2002.

International disdain towards American anti-terrorist efforts has been well-documented since 9/11. However USA Today, the largest paper in the country, and CNN one of the largest American-based cable networks in the world, carrying these stories shows a level of interest in anti-terrorist activity is growing at home as well as abroad. I have to wonder myself...if these are the people that we are hearing about who have been wronged by obviously absurd counter-terror measures, then who aren't we hearing about?
