Home computers now available in Cuba

There are many restrictions placed on the daily lives of Cubans, but Raul Castro has lifted a ban on the sale of home computers. Since Castro was elected President in February, he has since lifted other bans on consumer goods such as cell phones, mp3 players and DVD players.

Although Cubans now have access to home computers, many Cubans cannot afford to purchase one. Desktop computers cost nearly $800, but the average wage in Cuba is less than $20 a month, according to BBC News.

Currently, there is still a ban on internet access. The internet is limited to government officials, foreign journalists, and certain schools and workplaces, but it is not accessible in homes.
